Day 1 – Arrival in Socotra & the Magical Detwah Lagoon
Day 1 – Arrival in Socotra & the Magical Detwah Lagoon
Welcome to Socotra! Upon landing at Socotra Airport, our friendly local guides will greet you and introduce you to the island’s wonders. We’ll set off towards Qalansyia, the island’s second largest town, where adventure begins.
Lunch awaits at the world-famous Detwah Lagoon — a dazzling stretch of turquoise waters, soft white sands, and an abundance of marine life. Wander along its shores and keep an eye out for turtles, stingrays, balloon fish, octopus, and countless seashells.
As the day melts into evening, find your perfect spot for one of Socotra’s breathtaking sunsets. On the way back, we’ll stop in Alalmah village to photograph a relic of history — a Russian tank resting by the coast.
Dinner and overnight camp at Detwah Lagoon.
Day 2 – Dolphins & Shoub Beach Adventure
Day 2 – Dolphins & Shoub Beach Adventure
In the morning, a true fairy tale awaits us – we will head off to the Detuach lagoon, where the sea and the sky merge into turquoise magic. There we will be greeted by a dazzling white sand "tongue" that seems to invite us to step on it and dive into the shallow, crystal waters.
The view is so impressive that it will be hard to resist! The lagoon is also home to curious stingrays, as well as numerous seabirds that make the place even more lively.
Then we will board a boat and sail to Schwab - a paradise for dolphin lovers. In Schwab, we will treat ourselves to a delicious lunch, and the afternoon will be just for us – swimming, walking along the pristine beaches and immersing ourselves in the mysterious world of mangroves.
Dinner and overnight at Detouch Lagoon.
Day 3 - Dragon Blood Trees and Bedouin Life
Day 3 - Dragon Blood Trees and Bedouin Life
After breakfast, one of the most exciting adventures on the island awaits us – a trip to the Dixam Plateau and Gorge!
This is the place with the most spectacular limestone landscapes - sheer walls that drop as much as 700 meters down, bizarre dragon trees growing among stone edges and mystical "lost worlds" accessible only to eagles and vultures.
On our way, we will meet nomadic Bedouins - guardians of ancient traditions, who will share with a cup of aromatic tea. We will see their unique homes perched on rock ledges and learn more about their lives in harmony with nature.
After having lunch we will continue to the forest of Diksam. It is home to dragon trees, a rare and magical species that only grows here. The locals will tell us about the mysterious red elixir they make from the resin of these trees, which has been considered precious for centuries.
After enjoying the dragonwoods, we will head to Derhur Canyon. There we will immerse ourselves in a completely different picture – a colorful oasis of palm trees, dense shadows and exotic birds such as yellow-bellied green pigeons and Senegal cormorants. The contrast between the rugged plateau and the rich bottom of the canyon will make us feel the true magic of the island.
Dinner and overnight in the mystical Firmikhin forest.
Day 4 – Degub Cave and Amek Beach (Indian Ocean)
Day 4 – Degub Cave and Amek Beach (Indian Ocean)
After breakfast, we head to the Dagub cave, from which there is a view of the traditional villages scattered below it. The cave is interesting with the many stalactites, stalagmites and pools of water that seeped through the rock over time.
Then we reach Amek Beach – an endless stretch of sand where the waves of the Indian Ocean whisper their songs.
Next is lunch under the palm trees, time for swimming and rest. Towards sunset we will climb the Haif and Zahek dunes to see the sky ablaze with fiery colors.
Dinner and overnight in Amek.
Day 5 – Keleshan Pools and Archer Dunes
Day 5 – Keleshan Pools and Archer Dunes
After breakfast, we will drive to the Momi Plateau and reach the Keleshan Secret Pools – natural freshwater cascades and ponds surrounded by palm and bottle trees.
After lunch at Karia Oasis (where fresh and salt water meet), we arrive in Archer, a land of giant sand dunes.
Prevailing westerly winds around Archer have piled up sand dunes 150m high on sheer rock faces. A freshwater stream springs from one of the granite massifs, which meets the salty seawater on the beach.
Here we can relax on the green grass around the stream, swim in the sea or, if we feel like it, climb a huge sand dune to enjoy a fantastic view of this fascinating place.
Dinner and overnight in Archer.
Day 6 – Sunrise over the dunes, Hawk Cave and Cape Ras Erisal
Day 6 – Sunrise over the dunes, Hawk Cave and Cape Ras Erisal
We will wake up early to meet the magical sunrise from Archer Dunes.
Thanks to the topography of Socotra, made up of a limestone plateau and mountains, the island is full of cave systems.
During our expedition we will explore one of the largest Hok Caves - a 2.5 km underground wonder with ancient inscriptions, stalactites, stalagmites and crystal lakes. The cave system is at least 10 km long, and we will take a gentle 2 km walk inside, during which we will enjoy many huge stalagmites and stalactites, as well as a natural pool.
After lunch we head to Ras Erisal - the place where the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean meet. We will also visit a local village where we will meet the children of Socotra.
Dinner and overnight at Archer Beach.
Day 7 – Homhil National Park and the underwater wonders of Dihamri
Day 7 – Homhil National Park and the underwater wonders of Dihamri
Breakfast and departure to Homehill - a natural botanical garden with Dragon's Blood, Frankincense and Bottle trees. We will then head to the Homhill Conservation Area, enjoying the fabulous scenery of deep gorges and narrow plains along the way.
Along the way we hope to see flamingos, herons, great green-headed waders and other representatives of the feathered kingdom. After a short hike we will reach a natural infinity pool with a view of the entire north coast.
It offers a view of the village on the plain below and the sea. Many dragon trees grow in Homhil - the most distinctive symbol of Socotra and the most famous plant of the island, also considered the national tree of all Yemen.
Lunch at the Kariya Oasis followed by diving and snorkeling in the Dihamri Marine Protected Area, where corals, colorful fish and a magical underwater world await.
The day ends at Delisha beach.
Dinner and overnight in Delisha.
Day 8 – Goodbye, Socotra
